DESCRIPTION

The National Center for Energy Control (CENACE) carries out the Long Term Electric Auctions with the purpose of assigning electricity coverage contracts for the purchase of Power, Electric Power and Clean Energy Certificates.

As in the previous two auctions, in this third auction, the Basic Services Supplier (CFE Basic Supplier) will buy three electrical products: Energy, Power and Clean Energy Certificates to the generators that are winners. In addition, it is distinguished since, for the first time, thanks to the establishment of the Clearinghouse by CENACE, it is open to buyers other than the Basic Supply who presented purchase offers in the three mentioned electrical products. In this third Long Term Auction, buyers were presented, in addition to the Federal Electricity Commission, Basic Supply, Iberdrola Clientes and Menkent (CEMEX). In practice, this means that the possibilities are open for large energy consumers to acquire clean electricity through competitive processes, with the possibility of obtaining better prices.

The clearing house will function as the counterpart in the contracts signed with the buyers and sellers that win this auction.

According to the results of the Third Long Term Electric Auction (SLP-1/2017), a total of 10 companies from 6 countries, including Mexico, will invest $ 2,369 million dollars for the installation of 2,562 megawatts of new installed capacity in clean energies.

Average auction price per megawatt / CEL: USD $ 20.57
