The Program for the Development of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Istmo Program, seeks the well-being of the inhabitants of 79 municipalities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec: 46 belonging to the State of Oaxaca and 33 to the State of Veracruz.
It is a regional development program that joins efforts and instruments aimed at generating the conditions that detonate economic and social development in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the South-Southeast of the country.

The Isthmus Program is based on two important infrastructure projects:
The first of these corresponds to the logistics platform, which will take advantage of the privileged geographical location for the inter-oceanic mobilization of goods that will position the region in the world market for multimodal transportation services and contribute to bringing local production from the Isthmus and the south southeast of Mexico, to national and world markets.
The integration of the logistics platform contemplates the modernization of the ports of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, the highway infrastructure and the Interoceanic Railroad to offer cargo, transportation, storage, packaging and various logistics services.
The second project refers to an industrial production ecosystem, made up of 10 Development Poles that will have all the conditions to house industries, facilitate and encourage vocations as well as regional production chains. This, with the objective of promoting industrial activity and productive investments.
Likewise, they will have infrastructure, connectivity, services, support systems and incentives to facilitate production and trade; a favorable business environment to detonate the region’s competitiveness and attract investments that will strengthen the local economy and create opportunities.

Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec: The CIIT is a decentralized public agency of the Federal Public Administration, with legal personality and its own assets, not sectorized, created by decree on June 14, 2019.
Type of project
The Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec coordinates the execution of the objectives and priority strategies, specific actions, goals for the well-being and parameters of the Program for the Development of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec 2020-2024, Isthmus Program.
The execution of the specific actions of said program will be, in its case, charged to the budget of the participating agencies and entities, approved in the Expenditure Budgets of the Federation for the corresponding fiscal years.
With the coordination of the CIIT, the railroad of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the ports of Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz and Salina Cruz in Oaxaca will be modernized, the highway and rural road infrastructure will be strengthened, as well as the port network, and a gas pipeline will be built to supply companies and domestic consumers. In addition, polygons will be created along the Isthmus of Tehuantepec that will have incentives to attract investment that will stimulate the economic and social development of the region, based on the productive vocations with the greatest potential.
