Mexico-Querétaro Train Project
Phase One
As part of the “100 COMMITMENTS FOR THE SECOND STAGE OF TRANSFORMATION” of the Government of Mexico, strategic initiatives aimed at creating a “prosperous and connected Republic” have been included. These initiatives are currently in preliminary design stages, and the available public information is shared to provide insight into key concepts and the sources of this information.

Description:
The Government of Mexico is promoting the development of passenger railways to improve quality of life, well-being, and mobility. To this end, a Decree has been issued, declaring passenger rail transport within the Mexican Railway System a national priority for public service development.
The Mexico-Querétaro Train will focus on enhancing urban and interurban mobility, connecting Mexico City, Querétaro, and the main cities in the Bajío and central-northern regions of the country. This project will immediately benefit over 30,000 people from 22 municipalities who commute daily between Mexico City and Querétaro, with a total population of 5.6 million expected to benefit.
Key Data on the First Phase of the Mexico-Querétaro Train:
- Route: 225 km, utilizing the existing right of way.
- Train Fleet: Capacity for 450 passengers, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
- Estimated Investment: 75 billion MXN.
- Tracks: Two dedicated passenger lines utilizing the existing right of way.
- Travel Time: One hour and 40 minutes.
- Stations: Three stations will be built: Buenavista, San Juan del Río, and Santiago de Querétaro. The possibility of constructing stops in other towns along the route will be evaluated.
- Additional Works: 77 bridges, 12 tunnels, three viaducts, two bypasses, and two railway interchanges are planned to traverse the diverse terrain and urban areas, minimizing disruptions to existing infrastructure.
- Preliminary Studies Start: October 13.
- Construction Start: April 2025.
- Execution Time: 36 months.
- Completion of Work, Operational Testing, and Service Launch: First quarter of 2029.
- Preliminary Studies: The Felipe Ángeles Engineer Corps will carry out the preliminary studies to develop the executive project.
